History

A four-decade journey from database management in the pre-internet era through global scholarly mobility, to the consolidation of ICOIS at Liaoning University.

1980s — Early database management

The story began as an enterprise of database management and record-keeping in the late 1980s. In the pre-dawn era of the internet — when dBase III, COBOL, FORTRAN and BASIC were popular — the enterprise advised, managed, trained and taught about these fields. It collaborated with King Saud University in Riyadh and other institutions of higher education and management studies.

1990s — Digital transformation, global mobility

Through the 1990s, the work expanded to medical-records information systems and organisational digitalisation. The founder moved to the University of Wales and Manchester Business School, while the enterprise relocated across the UK, Jordan, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York and Saudi Arabia.

Mid-1990s — Melliorium Institute

The enterprise transformed into Melliorium Institute, Melliorium Technologies and Melliorium Publication. The acronym is rooted in three values: Mellifluous, Organic and Premium. Activities included biotechnology (synthetic and soya-based lubricants in Brooklyn New York and Alabama, USA) and academic publication.

2000s — Recovery and Asian regional partnerships

Returning to Singapore, the venture collaborated with Jansol Technology and Wearnes Biotech. In South Asia, partnerships with pharmaceutical companies in Iran, Pakistan and India expanded the network. TAG Technology was launched in Leeds, UK.

2003 — Academic reintegration

The founder joined North London University (NLU), which became London Metropolitan University after merging with Guildhall University. Strong chemical-technology capability complemented the institutional management research focus.

2010s – present — ICOIS at Liaoning University

Decades of mobility, accumulated networks and a maturing institutional vision converged in the founding of ICOIS at Liaoning University. Today ICOIS connects 25 scholars across 15 countries with disciplinary breadth and a clear focus on organisation and innovation.
